"Our Costera agent helped us navigate the approval process and implementation of finding long-term care insurance for our parents. She has been wonderful to work with and stays in touch on a regular basis. Thank you for the great customer service."

Jaclyn P.

"Good company, great team! I can't say enough good things about the professionalism of our agent. My husband and I wanted to purchase life insurance as part of our financial planning strategy and to prepare for having kids in the future, but neither one of us knew much about how it works, so we had a lot of questions. She took her time to answer all of our questions and concerns, she was very patient with us and encouraged us to do our own research as well. She helped us find the right plan for our needs."

Life Insurance

Comprehensive coverage. Engineered for simplicity.

For those with significant assets, a business, or a multi-generational estate, life insurance is a precision instrument, not an off-the-shelf product.

Life insurance, when properly structured, functions as a cornerstone of comprehensive wealth planning. It provides estate liquidity, tax-advantaged wealth transfer, and business continuity in a single instrument.

Term Life

Targeted coverage for a defined period, ideal for income replacement, mortgage protection, and business obligation coverage during the years they matter most.

Permanent Life

Whole and universal life structures that accumulate cash value, provide lifelong coverage, and serve as a tax-advantaged vehicle within an estate or business plan.

For high-net-worth families, life insurance solves specific, complex problems. It provides the liquidity needed to settle an estate without forcing asset sales, fund trusts, and ensure wealth transfers on your terms.

Cover taxes and settlement costs without liquidating assets like real estate or a business interest.

Irrevocable Life Insurance Trust (ILIT) funding as part of your estate structure.

Pass wealth to heirs in a tax-efficient structure, on your terms.

Income replacement and lifestyle protection for a surviving spouse, plus charitable and philanthropic legacy planning.

For business owners, life insurance is a strategic instrument, not a personal one. The loss of a key person, partner, or owner is one of the most destabilizing events a company can face. We structure coverage that keeps the business intact.

Protect the company against the loss of critical personnel with dedicated coverage owned by the business.

Buy-sell agreement funding to ensure a clean, pre-agreed ownership transition.

Deferred compensation and retention programs for the people your business depends on.

Business loan and SBA guarantee protection, integrated with your broader succession and exit strategy.

Common questions

Frequently asked.

How does life insurance fit into an estate plan?+
Life insurance provides immediate, tax-free liquidity at death, allowing an estate to cover taxes, debts, and settlement costs without forcing the sale of illiquid assets like real estate or a business interest. It is often the most efficient tool for preserving estate value across a transition.
What is a buy-sell agreement and why does it need insurance?+
A buy-sell agreement is a legally binding contract between business partners that determines what happens to each owner's share if one dies, becomes disabled, or exits. Life insurance funds the buyout, ensuring the surviving partners can purchase the deceased's interest without depleting operating capital or taking on debt.
What is key-person insurance?+
Key-person insurance is a policy owned by the business on the life of an individual whose death would significantly impact operations or revenue. The death benefit gives the company the financial runway to recruit a replacement, cover lost revenue, or manage an orderly wind-down.
What is term vs. permanent life insurance?+
Term insurance provides coverage for a specific period at the lowest initial cost, suited for obligations with a defined timeline. Permanent insurance (whole or universal life) provides lifelong coverage, builds cash value, and often plays a role in estate and tax planning. The right structure depends entirely on your objectives.
How much coverage do I actually need?+
For high-net-worth individuals and business owners, the answer goes well beyond income replacement formulas. We assess your estate obligations, business liabilities, trust structures, and long-term goals, then design coverage around the specific gap we're solving for.

Long-Term Care Insurance

One of the greatest risks to accumulated wealth. Addressed.

A prolonged care event can erode decades of accumulated wealth in years. We structure coverage that shields your estate and keeps your family from bearing that burden.

The risk

What standard coverage doesn't address.

Long-term care encompasses costs that fall entirely outside what Medicare and standard health insurance cover: in-home nursing, assisted living facilities, memory care, and extended custodial care. For high-net-worth individuals, these costs are significant, and without a plan they come directly from your estate.

In-home nursing, assisted living, and skilled nursing facility costs, often exceeding $100,000 annually in California.

Alzheimer's and dementia require sustained, specialized care, often for years, at costs that standard health coverage simply does not address.

Without coverage, care costs are paid directly from accumulated assets, potentially forcing the liquidation of investments, real estate, or a business interest.

A plan in place spares your spouse and children from the financial and emotional weight of unplanned caregiving, keeping decisions in your hands and not theirs.

Common questions

Frequently asked.

Why doesn't my existing health insurance cover this?+
Standard health insurance and Medicare cover acute medical care: treatment, hospitalization, and short-term rehabilitation. They do not cover custodial care: the ongoing assistance with daily living activities that defines long-term care. That gap is entirely uncovered without a dedicated policy.
At what net worth level does LTC insurance make sense?+
The general threshold where LTC insurance becomes strategically relevant is $1M to $3M in assets. Below that, Medicaid eventually covers costs. Above $5M to $10M, self-insuring may be viable. The middle range, and anyone with a business, real estate, or illiquid assets, benefits most from coverage, since a care event can force asset liquidation at the worst possible time.
When should I apply?+
Underwriting is health-based. The earlier you apply, the broader your options and the lower your premium. A health event, even a seemingly minor one, can reduce your eligibility or increase your cost significantly. The right time to plan is always before you need the coverage.

Estate Planning

Insurance is one piece. We help you see the whole picture.

We are not a law firm or a CPA firm, and this page is general education, not legal or tax advice. We partner with independent estate planning attorneys and CPAs nationwide, and coordinate with your existing advisors, so your coverage integrates with the rest of your plan.

The basics

Estate planning, at a glance.

Every state, including California, has its own rules for what happens to your assets if you don't leave clear instructions. The core building blocks below are common across most estate plans, though the right combination for you depends on your specific situation and should be confirmed with a licensed attorney.

A will directs how your assets are distributed and can name a guardian for minor children. Without one, state intestacy law decides for you, which rarely matches what someone would have actually wanted.

A revocable living trust can help assets pass to your beneficiaries without going through probate, keeps the details private, and can plan for incapacity, not just death. Trusts are commonly used in California given the state's often lengthy and costly probate process.

Probate is the court process of validating a will and distributing assets. In California, it can take a year or more and cost a meaningful percentage of the estate's value in fees. Many estate plans are structured specifically to avoid or minimize it.

A financial power of attorney lets someone you trust manage your finances if you become unable to. Without one, your family may need to petition a court for conservatorship, an expensive and public process.

An advance healthcare directive states your medical wishes and names someone to make healthcare decisions on your behalf if you cannot. It works alongside, not instead of, your financial power of attorney.

Even a well-drafted plan can run into trouble if the estate lacks cash on hand. Taxes, debts, and administrative costs typically come due before assets are distributed. This is where life insurance often does its most important work, providing funds immediately, without waiting on the sale of a business or property.

How we work together

Your insurance advisor, alongside your legal and tax team.

We are licensed to structure and place life and long-term care insurance, not to draft legal documents or file tax returns. What we can do is make sure the insurance side of your plan is built correctly, and coordinate directly with the attorney and CPA handling the rest of it.

If you don't already have an estate planning attorney or CPA, we maintain relationships with independent, licensed professionals across the country and are glad to make an introduction, with no obligation. If you already have a team in place, we're happy to work alongside them directly to make sure your coverage supports the plan they've built for you.

Common questions

Frequently asked.

Do you provide legal or tax advice?+
No. We are a licensed insurance agency, not a law firm or CPA firm. Nothing on this page or in a conversation with us should be treated as legal or tax advice. For document drafting, trust funding, or tax filing, you'll need a licensed attorney or CPA, and we're glad to introduce you to one from our partner network if you don't already have one.
Do I need a trust if I already have a will?+
It depends on your assets, your state, and your goals, which is exactly the kind of question an estate planning attorney should answer directly for your situation. Generally, trusts become more relevant as estate value, real property, or the desire for privacy and probate avoidance increases.
Can you recommend a specific attorney or CPA for me?+
We can introduce you to independent, licensed professionals from our nationwide partner network based on your general situation and location. Any engagement is directly between you and that professional, and you're always free to choose someone else instead.
What happens if I do nothing?+
Your state's default intestacy laws decide who receives your assets, a court may need to appoint someone to manage your affairs if you're incapacitated, and your estate is more likely to face a longer, more expensive probate process. None of that requires anyone's input but your own to prevent.

Let's make sure the pieces fit together.

A conversation about how your coverage supports your broader estate plan, and an introduction to a trusted attorney or CPA if you need one.
